Major change, looking forward to getting into Nursing- lots of questions!

Published

Hello All, I am a 28 year old mother of two who decided years after High School that I wanted to finally earn a degree, better late than never. Anyhow, I am finishing up my last semester at Bergen Community College, will be receiving a degree in Business Administration. Only reason I continued my studies in Business Administration is because I wanted to finish something I started many years ago. I now realize that I do not care for the Business Administration field. After being laid off twice from the same employer in the telecommunication field within 4 years, I knew I needed a career change. I am very confused as to what is the best option for me- diploma vs. degree, private vs. community college? I have this influenced mentality that a degree will always be better than a diploma but am I right? Eventually I do plan on getting my BSN and if possible my MSN. I hear the Nursing program in Bergen is very competitive, however, besides that I needed to complete Chemistry and A & P I before Feb 2014 for the Fall 2014 enrollment, because I plan on taking these class Spring 2014, along with Sociology and Developmental Psych, I will then have to wait until the Fall 2015 program. I honestly do not have the time to sit around and wait, what if I am not accepted? I am getting old, although not that old I do have a family I must provide for and I would like to complete my studies and get into the workforce as soon as possible. I am wondering if private schools such as Eastwick or Holy Name are my only options at the moment? Does anyone have any kind of advice or information that can maybe make this transition a little more clearer for me? I am very confused as to where to start. If I do attend a private school such as Eastwick will I eventually be able to earn my BSN? Will the credits I earn in Eastwick transfer to a four year university? Again, any advice or information would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :-)
