Maintaining License

HI,

I have an RN license in NJ and would like to know what is required in order to maintain it. Do I have to do a certain amount of Continued Education Classes. How many and where? Do I have to pay??

Thank you!!

If you look on your board of nursing website for your state, it will give you the requirements for continuing education for your renewal.

You do have to pay for these, unless there is some sort of language in your union contract or your employment contract for reimbursement of continuing education, and the guidelines under which the reimbursement is given.

Keep track of all of the continuing education that you do take--a class at work that is worth CEU's. You can find a lot of stuff online. Some of them free. Just make sure your state accepts them before you put time into education that will not count. There are nursing journals that have CEU's and booklets of all of the CEU's you need for the year. And ask your co-workers what they do to get CEU's as well. They may have some interesting classes that you can do online or in a booklet.

But again, go to your BON website and see what is required.
