My family bought me a really nice, rolling book bag for school. I start the program in a couple weeks and I was wondering if a lot of people use rolling bags or will I look out of place?

A lot of people do use their rolling backpacks, so you wont be out of place, but... I bought one at the recommendation of an October start, and I wish I hadnt because you really dont have to bring all your books to school, so unless youve got some serious back problem, you really should just carry your stuff! I think it almost looks lazy (and its gross to wheel it through the bathroom and everywhere everyone walks and then bring it in your house). Wish I could return mine because its big and bulky (Jansport) and even though it has straps, the wheels still stick out on the bottom. One of our professors kind of rip on us nursing students and our rolling backpacks...

Keep the tags on it, and use something else for the first week and decide if you need it or not. That huge Taylor book doesn't ever have to come to school...

So the first day handout for 1165 is not accurate? It states that Carpenito, Kee and Taylor along with the Nurse Pac must be brought to each lab. Also, does each of the 4 courses have their own syllabi (even 1175)?

Did you get my pm?

You wont need your nurse pack till week 5 when you do catheters, so dont bring it. I dont know why they put that on the syllabus, because the only book you MAY want to bring is Wilson, and you would just want to bring that to your 2 labs. Week 3 in one lecture you need your carpenito, and you may want it for your 6 hour lab, but again, the first week you dont need anything really. Each class has their own syllabus and youre given huge work packets/notes from each teacher, so you just follow along with those during lecture and use your books at home for extensive homework!

I did get your PM, going to write you back shortly. Lots to say, havent been able to sit down at the computer long enough to write back!

There were probably more people using the rolling style than normal ones in my class. A few people actually used rolling suitcases, which I thought was overkill.

For the first class people went nuts and brought every book, by the second 8 weeks not many people were bringing suitcases and rolling bags anymore. I never even use a backpack. I bring a purse and the book on occasion. Bringing every single book and supply is overkill. If you need more than one book just have a friend bring one book and you bring the other. Also, for clinical I would recommend not even bringing a backpack, just a small tote. Many clinical sites have VERY limited space for your stuff.

Thanks for the advice - I plan on going to the learning center every day when I am not in class to study because there are too many distractions at home, I guess I will use my rolling bag on those days so that I can bring my books and my laptop.

Personally I loved my rolling bag! I had my binders, lunch, office supplies, etc. in it. I didn't bring all my textbooks every day, but it was nice to have the bag when I had to drag them with me. Considering how far the walk is from the parking lot to the classrooms I was happy to roll my stuff instead of carry it. I would say only a third or less of the class had them. To each their own! I rarely had my bag in the bathroom with me, that is what classmates are for, to guard your stuff ;). Or you leave it in the classroom during break to run to the bathroom.
