I want to start a running forum for the applicants of the 2018/2019 program as has been done in the past.

How many other people are applying this year?

How many are taking their HESI in the next few months?

I think they wait to tell you start date because they usually do 1-40 start in August, 41-80 start in October and so on so they have to wait to find out if everyone in the first 160 spots are actually going to be in the program. Since some people apply to multiple nursing programs, not everyone that gets in will be going so you may be moved up in rank. Once we go to orientation though people are obviously paying for that so then they can see what number you are and give you your start date.

I received my letter yesterday! Why would it be random? Have they ever done it that way before? That just seems a little weird rather than going by rank.

I hope it's not random! I've never heard of them doing that before, but I guess that doesn't mean they won't start now. I'm really hoping for the January start date, because I have a baby coming in October, and I'd like to be able to be off for a couple of months prior.

The ranking takes into consideration your GPA...A&P Micro, English, and Intro to Nursing. Plus our HESI score, of course = )

It's the Fundementals of Nursing by Taylor. I believe the 8th edition is still the newest edition. It a blue book.

I heard that as of last year, they were taking the top 160 scores and trying to mix the classes up with different GPA's and HESI scores. This way there will be some that are stronger in one area than the other areas and so forth. Would make a better team environment. This is just what I heard. I do not know this to be factual!! = }

That is basically what I heard as well. I understand why they would do it, but I am concerned because I had made plans based on the merit system, in particular with my job. I sent an email to try and get an answer in writing.

Well I do know that after we attend the Mandatory meeting in May, we have an option to email Teri and put in a "request" for a start date. They don't guarantee that we will get what we ask for but at least we get the opportunity to express our reasons for why we would like a certain start date.

students used to have the option to pick when they wanted to start. i spoke to kristen friday and she said we attend the orientation and it all depends because some people don't show up, or pay their deposit, or even pick an alternate program and go to a different school. so i dont think we can choose anymore, they do.

Right, in the long run they choose but they will allow us to request a start time but it doesn't mean we will get it lol I have a few friends in the program that have requested a start date and were lucky to get it. Depends on what's going on with others, like you were saying. I'm hoping for August, I'm 53 and need to get going with this so I can become a nurse before I need a nurse!! Hehe í ½í¸œ
