Is anyone familiar with the M.D. Anderson residency in Texas? Is it good? Is it worth moving several states away?

As a current, and almost finished, nurse in the residency program I can tell you that it is fantastic! It eases you in very comfortably and gives you more resources than you could ask for! Hope this helps :]

Hi Vcastio,
I was called for an interview with MD Anderson for the OR nurse residency program. Do you have an tips for the interview. Thanks!!!
Be prepared! Have stories ready of times when you advocated for your patients, difficult situations, and how you handled them. Also be prepared to ask questions, hope you do well!

Hey vcastio,
Just got called for an interview at MD Anderson for the Grad Residency Program. I'm interviewing with a separate individual and a panel (!?!?!?!?!?!). Did you go through something similar? And what is it like? Any advice? Thanks in advance!
Yes, exactly that. First is the HR interview, your basic newhire interview. Although they are HR, they still ask you nursing questions! The panel interview is held by floor managers of potential hiring floors. I was unable to attend mine in person so it was a conference call. They are very friendly and though it sounds intimidating, it's nice :] Just know you're strengths and tell how you have and will advocate for your patients! Good luck!
Vcastio,
Thanks! I forgot to ask but how does the internship work? Is it a one-year commitment? I looked at the FAQs on their site but it doesn't mention any contract or commitment information...
Well it's not really an internship, you are full fledged RN with all that it entails, you will just be coached for the first weeks. The residency class itself is a year long commitment with bi-monthly or monthly meetings, paid meetings ;] I've heard that if you don't complete the full year of residency that you are not able to get rehired, but I don't know that for sure.

Curious, are you both BSN nurses or ADN nurses?? Thanks. I'm an ADN and wondering if that is making the difference.

Do you guys know when the GN Residency program will start? Is it in January 2012?! Thanks!
As far as I know, MD Anderson no longer hires ADN. I don't know of many hospitals that still do. I would always recommend to get your BSN if you can because ADN is phasing out. As far as the next Res. class, I really couldn't say. They had one in june and july when I started.
I applied for the GN internship that Starts in October. Thanks for the info vcastio! The interview went really well and the nursing directors were so nice. :)
