Hello. I am considering a move to El Paso, TX this year and I was wondering if there are any LVNs on this forum from there. Can you tell me anything about working there as a LVN? I assume, as in most all places, that long term care pays better so this is where I intend to start (plus, it's what I enjoy). I've read before that El Paso has high unemployment and low salaries. Is this true and if so how does it effect job prospects and salaries for long term care LVNs? Also, does anyone have anything at all to say about the city itself from experience? I've been there before and really liked it but maybe someone who has lived there can give a different perspective. Thanks in advance for any responses. El Paso doesn't seem to be as big of a destination as say Dallas or Houston so I'm having a bit of trouble finding practical "this is the way it is" information. Thanks.

Hi, I'm an RN that used to live in El Paso. There is a strong nursing shortage, probably more for RNs than LPNs. However, I believe ANY nursing home in El Paso is looking for LPNs. I have a friend that works at Sunset Haven making more than I do as an RN. White Acres Good Sam in very nice. Coronado wasn't too nice when I was there, but I'm sure it has changed for the better. They used to have weekend options. My opinion is that El Paso is a great market for nurses. My hubby just retired from the Army and we've lived all over, but El Paso was the best market for nurses that I've ever experienced. If you are not spanish-speaking, you might feel more comfortable on the Westside (Redd Rd. area). Houses are less on the Eastside (generally speaking), but I always preferred the Westside. Also, I enjoyed the culture and low cost-of-living.
Military Spouse,
Thanks for the reply. This information helps.
