LVN TO RN HELP

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi nursing family,

I am currently an LVN and went to a trade school for my schooling. I am in need of an advice of trying to pursue my ADN and later to my BSN. I have applied for Chaffey Summer term and was able to get Math, English and Sociology. As for the fall term, I have tried 3 different schools just to get any biology classes and it is all full! Kind of was disappointed but I did not want that to discourage my goal.

I have found another college called Pacific College located in Costa Mesa that offer "stand alone classes" such as the anatomy, physiology and Microbiology (and also general eds). They are over $1,000 for 10 week course for the science classes.

Should I take what I can at Chaffey and also enroll myself in those stand alone classes and pay for my science classes to be done all within this year?

Any and all response is greatly appreciated!

I would recommend finding out if those stand alone classes will transfer to Chaffey. Is Pacific College regionally accredited?

You can also try other CCs like SBVC, RCC, and see if you can get into their science classes.

Thank you so much for your response @Neo Soldier. I have tried Mt. Sac, Citrus and RCC and classes are full. I have now applied to SBVC (thank you to you).  I did contact Chaffey and they are unaware of Pacific College and would need to investigate more on the science courses and what it entails. To me this sounds like it'll be a 'no go' for me. So I am going to keep trying on CCs.

I know how hard it is to get into those classes you really need and it’s indeed frustrating. Keep your GPA up and take as many units you can (towards your major) so you can have priority registration. I attended Chaffey as well.

Make sure to take Anatomy and physiology at the same school.

@Neo SoldierTruly appreciate you taking time out of your day to respond and to give me great advice. It is definitely frustrating, but I'm more than positive I am not alone on this or felt alone doing this route. I wouldn't mind paying over $130k for West Coast University and get my BSN out of the way, but having that in the back of my mind of that big loan debt is such a cringe feeling, ha. Thank you so much again for listening to me!

I wouldn’t recommend West Coast. I had a brief super secret stint there. I think you should read reviews about the school before you go there; From over crowding to disorganization, the problems are endless. Think of the time spent getting your pre-reqs as an opportunity for more LVN experience.

@Neo Soldier West Coast is definitely my last resort, I am aware of the endless of problems. I truly do appreciate all the information! I have been struggling to find a path to take and you have made it so clear for me, you have no idea. As much as I want to "finish" quicker, the end result will still be the same on either route I take.

Hey I know this post is 2 months old but I’m actually attending the RN program at pacific college. Chaffey probably hasn’t heard of it becuase pacific college’s RN program is new. My class is the third cohort and they do offer the sciences. Pacific college is accredited so in general you shouldn’t have a problem transferring classes but always double check to be sure. I’m an Lvn also and they just started the Lvn to RN bridge. If you’re interested I know it’s a private school but let me tell you it’s WAY cheaper than the other private RN programs right now in California. Also the fastest. 1 year and half to get ADN and then after we take our NCLEX we can go straight into taking our BSN which is 1 year all online. I loved this option becuase I can already start working as an RN before starting the BSN portion. Hope this helps!
