LVN salary in So. Cal!

hi all...i think i have decided to set my sighs on lvn/lpn instead of rn for now. i am starting as a cna (classes begin in september) and i will also be taking my pre-reqs for lvn at the same time, working as a cna and finishing my pre-reqs.

i have 2 questions for california nurses

1) what5 is the starting salary for a licensed lvn in a hospital setting in so. cal?

2) what is the general scope of practice for lvn's here (hospital setting)?

my 'dream' is l&d and i've been told numerous times to just 'go for the rn if you wanna do l&d' but i want to take it one step at a time...cna-lvn-rn. i am wondering if lvns can even work on that floor (i've heard no) and if so what duties are they limited to in comparision to a rn?

You will need an RN license if your dream is to work in L&D. Even many RNs have extreme difficulty finding L&D positions because these jobs are so competitive and at a premium. Numerous nurses want to work in L&D, so RNs are given priority in hiring. I have never, ever seen an LVN hired into L&D in Southern California.

LVN salary in the greater Los Angeles area is $15 to $17 hourly for working in a doctor's office or outpatient clinic. The average hospital starts at $17 hourly, and nursing homes pay $18 to $21 hourly. Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside counties pay the same as Los Angeles. I don't know about Orange County or San Diego LVN salaries.

I attended LVN school in the San Fernando Valley last year.

Thanks for the info. Im in San Bernardino county now (Upland) but plan to move back to my hometown in LA county (San Dimas)...

And thanks for the info on L&D/RN...that is what I had figured.

How is the outlook for LVN in nursing home/rehab type of facilities?

My mom had a brain anuerysm about 7 years ago and the nurse her worked to help rehabilitate her were awesome, thats also of iterest to me...It was physical therapy (which I know is diff) but she was in the hospital (USC) so she was also cared for by staff nurses too...just curious.

Seventy percent of all new LVN/LPN jobs will be in home health and at extended care facilities such as nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. The LVN job outlook for long-term care and rehab is excellent since the millions of middle-aged baby boomers will soon become elderly and in need of extended care, either via home health or nursing home care.

And the nice thing is the fact that ECFs and LTCFs pay higher wages than hospitals and clinics.

Hi Yannie I worked in L&D @ St bernardine Hospital but pretty much as an Aide doing Vitals and etc not much you can do. But to work at a snf starting pay is around 15 I am doing Hospice right now and I love it! which pays fairly well.
