LVN to MA after license suspension

Published

Hi all,

Im seeking advice post legal issue. In 2017 my LVN license was suspended for 3 years, meaning I can petition for reinstatement in 2020. This is following a legal matter going back to 2014 with a huge med error (no patient was injured in the event). I continued to work licensed for another three years before the license suspension. I no longer under any criminal investigations or criminal probation and my misdemeanor was expunged.

Anyway, I've been able to apply to MA/unlicensed back office work only because of my nursing experience. I have 2 upcoming interviews with med offices now.

My question is, how should I go about answering the inevitable "why did you leave nursing to be an MA" question since the job description includes similar LVN duties such as injections, specimen collection and processing, and pt teaching? Obviously I can't say I left nursing because it wasn't for me or that I lost interest since it isn't true.

Whats an appropriate answer that is truthful and also a sort of short and sweet breezy answer that might help answer this question? I've been exploring the right vocabulary and can't seem to find an eloquent response.

Many thanks,

Anyone can look up your license information online, so it's likely your suspension and any flags on your license will show up, for California or for any state where you have been licensed. I am a little confused about your dates because that doesn't make a lot of sense, but that really doesn't matter; I am sure some of the details that you haven't revealed would help the timeline. Is the misdemeaner related to the med error? Did this occur in California, or were you somewhere else and you were applying to get a California license and it was denied?

Have you considered looking outside of healthcare for work for a bit? That might eliminate the need to smooth things over so much.
