LVN/LPN schools

Published

In Dallas, TX there is a school called the Dallas Nursing Institute. The only program they offer is one for LVNs. It's around $18k for the whole program, they offer a full time program and now a part time program as well. There is no waiting list to get in, no pre-reqs required to get started, no interview or minimum GPA required to get in like at community colleges. Nothing except an agreement to pay your tuition and you have to pass the NET (the entrance exam)

My problem is, I would like to know where there are other programs like this- preferably in other areas of Texas but I would also be interested in similar programs in other states- near the Atlantic Coast or California or possibly Colorado. The only way I found the Dallas Nursing Institute was by coming across an ad they placed in the back of the classifieds. Even now, I can't find anything about the DNI by using search engines online- I have to go directly to their website.

So, does anyone know of other programs like theirs in other places besides Dallas, TX?

And one other question: if I attend a program like the one at DNI, and then pass the NCLEX-PN - does anyone know if employers will be put off by the fact that I didn't graduate from a regular community college program? Or does it not matter as long as I pass the NCLEX-PN?

Also, will I have any problems getting into LVN-RN Bridge programs later on? The Bridge program I want to attend only says that you have to be an LVN for one year to apply. It doesn't say you have to get your education from a certain type of program.

My program didn't require prereqs, and they don't have a waiting list. All you have to do is have a HS diploma and take the NET test.

I'm not sure where you are, but my program is in PA.

I'm in Fort Worth, which is about 30 miles west of Dallas. There are a couple of other private LVN programs in your area. Concorde Career Institute is in Arlington, Platt College is in Dallas, and both of these schools offer LVN programs.

I completed a private, expensive LVN program in California before moving to Texas in 2005. No employer has ever asked about my schooling. In the DFW area, you'll be hired as long as you are a warm body with a nursing license who is willing to fill staffing needs.
