LVN/LPN to RN Please HELP!

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi all,

I am in a bit of a dilemma. Currently i am a LVN/LPN #2 (#2 being capable of IV/Blood withdrawals). I have 1 year nursing experience working as a Operating Room Nurse, before a State Inspector informed me that LVN cannot work in Operating Rooms. So now I am unemployed (in California) and looking to do the smart thing. Unemployment will pay for 1 year of school (through the CTB program) for a non-degree based program I.E. LVN to RN bridge, but not the LVN to BSN (BSN is a degree). I have roughly 84 college credits and another 30ish from my LVN degree.

The unemployed CTB program will allow me to go to any school in the United States as long as I am only attending 1 year of school and of course that it is a cert based program and not a degree. Unemployment is going to be my main source of income. I was hoping to find a school that offers dorms (because some financial aid will pay for dorms). Can anyone recommend a school? The local school of Shasta College has dorms, a LVN program but they are kinda shiesty with wanting you to take extra classes that you don't really need as a RN (cultural anthropology, etc), and they won't accept other schools credits. I went to Institute of Technology who is Nationally accredited but not regionally, so none of my classes except my LVN (which they cannot deny) will work for that school.

Or I have heard of hospitals that if you give them a 2 year contract they will pay for your RN schooling. Does anyone know of any hospitals that are still doing that. I am willing to relocated, and not worried about having to live in a Siberia crime infested area, as long as I get my RN out of it.

Or does anyone have any other ideas that might work out. Places or tours (not the military) that might pay better that would give me the funds to go to school. Any ideas?
