  1. I have heard of the bridge program. (LPN/LVN to RN bridge) but online a totally online course would give me the ability to take the class now rather then have to wait. Thank all for your input I will have to checkout the Excelsior program.
  2. I heard you can become an RN from online classes...using a local hospital in conjunction with your school to makeup the clinical hours. (volunteering at the hospital). Has anyone else heard about this sort of thing? ------------------------- Currently I am a LPN/LVN 2. With a AS degree. Over 1 year of acute setting experience.
  3. Hi all, I am in a bit of a dilemma. Currently i am a LVN/LPN #2 (#2 being capable of IV/Blood withdrawals). I have 1 year nursing experience working as a Operating Room Nurse, before a State Inspector informed me that LVN cannot work in Operating Rooms. So now I am unemployed (in California) and looking to do the smart thing. Unemployment will pay for 1 year of school (through the CTB program) for a non-degree based program I.E. LVN to RN bridge, but not the LVN to BSN (BSN is a degree). I have roughly 84 college credits and another 30ish from my LVN degree. The unemployed CTB program will allow me to go to any school in the United States as long as I am only attending 1 year of school and of course that it is a cert based program and not a degree. Unemployment is going to be my main source of income. I was hoping to find a school that offers dorms (because some financial aid will pay for dorms). Can anyone recommend a school? The local school of Shasta College has dorms, a LVN program but they are kinda shiesty with wanting you to take extra classes that you don't really need as a RN (cultural anthropology, etc), and they won't accept other schools credits. I went to Institute of Technology who is Nationally accredited but not regionally, so none of my classes except my LVN (which they cannot deny) will work for that school. Or I have heard of hospitals that if you give them a 2 year contract they will pay for your RN schooling. Does anyone know of any hospitals that are still doing that. I am willing to relocated, and not worried about having to live in a Siberia crime infested area, as long as I get my RN out of it. Or does anyone have any other ideas that might work out. Places or tours (not the military) that might pay better that would give me the funds to go to school. Any ideas?
  4. When I was in the army there response to just about everything was to apply a tourniquet....bleeding? Tourniquet! Headache? Tourniquet! I often wonder if they had a little better medical classes if they could save more lives or at the very least have more of our boys go home without missing limbs. Working in an OR we have used constrictive bands, but only for IV usage.
  5. Hello folks, I live currently in California and I have several years experience working in an OR as a LVN. Recently due to changing laws I am unable to work in an OR with my current LPN/LVN license. Since work in scarce in my area I was thinking of possibly trying to try companion work/in home care. But instead of going through a business where they would take the majority of the pay I was going to try the self employed routine. I know I need Mal-Practice/Liability Insurance for a self employed person, but does anyone else know what else I might need? Business License? Anyone have any tips? Thanks.
  6. It seems to be although the hospital did not find a room for her overnight, they still had assumed patient care. And as long as you didn't pick her up from the ER after the visit it would not be your fault. That sort of thing is too acute for a rehab hospital. As for an RN taking orders from a LVN/LPN. It doesn't matter, you can still take orders from a LVN/LPN. It's not even a scope of practice issue. If you had a supervisor or a manager that was not an RN and they told you to jump. How high would you jump?
