LTC/Sub-Acute Supervisors

Published

:nurse:For the nurses that are supervisors in Long Term Care/Sub-Acute, can you tell me exactly what are your duties/job description? Do you get to work the floor or is it all paperwork. Are you paid by the hour or salaried? If you work as a staff nurse, before going into the supervisor role, did your pay increase? Sorry for all of the questions. Thanks

I was the day supervisor, paid hourly. I had my own projects to do...I was the queen of weights, the wound nurse, attended and updated care plans, dealt with families and doctors. I've unplugged toilets, worked in the laundry and cooked three meals one day when all the cooks called out. On rare occasion I had to take a cart if someone called out. Luckily that didn't happen often.I also had to make rounds every morning and report to morning meeting what was going on on the units. I loved that job.

I just wanted to add what I expect as a DON, for this position. A strong nurse manager that takes care of all of the "little" things, calls me when there is a concern/issue or difficult patient/family/staff and lets me referree a little bit, from home/phone so that the nurse manager can proceed forward with the job duties. I also expect the nurse manager not to START trouble (lol) or at least not have a reaction FROM the trouble maker especially if staff. A written report of a synopsis (if w/e sup) and thats about the jist of it in addition to the very important answer the phone, conduct tours, do the quarterly assessments on your assigned patients and let me know if you can't keep up, and the team will assist. Don't I sound SO polyanna? Tee hee
