Is Professionalism Long Gone???

I recently interviewed for a position as an AIT-administrator in training. So there I am sitting quietly in my professional attire with my professional demeanor and out walks the woman who is going to interview me.

She is part owner of the company and I know her by reputation only. She plopped (yes, plopped) herself down in a chair and her shirt, which was really too small, rode up and left her with an exposed midriff. Okay...it was late on a hot Friday afternoon so I didn't think too much of it other than a YIKES!! to myself.

We started talking about the position and the people we knew in common. Next thing I knew she lets loose the F word! I was speechless and if any of you have read any of my other posts, you know that's not my usual state. I wanted to leave right then and there, but this is a small community and everyone knows everyone.

I am too old? I'm only 53 and assume that if someone reaches a certain level they should behave in a professional manner. I am certainly not a prude and on more than one occasion have let the F word fly, but never during an interview.

What is this world coming to?

Personally, I would be underwhelmed enough to decline the position if offered.

Yikes! maybe, just maybe that would have been remtely okay if you had known this person for a while, friendly and letting off steam. I think that is stretching it tho. No...age doesn't matter...I'm 33 and I've noticed alot of changes in work ethic and professionalism over my career.

I once ran .. without looking back... from a great offer when the DON met me for the interview in a most revealing and attractive attire (no, it was not the end of the day and she was not on the way to a date or affair) I was shocked. I figured if she was this inappropriate for a simple professional interview- what can I expect- well I found something better and this DON was soon fired from her position anyway and couldn't find a better position so she ended up several notches lower on the career totem pole- in one of the worst nursing homes to boot! Not that she did anything to me- but her attire put us all the way back to the days where nurses were depicted as whore- wannabees. NOT PROFESSIONAL!!! As to your question, what is this world coming to - where its always been- there are good and bad in every profession. Lets try to be the role models and show the advantages of professional behavior!!

I had an interview once with a DON...she had food on her shirt. So it was right after lunch so I didn't think too much of it. I went back for a second interview and she had food on her shirt. I really didn't want to work for a DON who couldn't even keep her own shirt clean, so I went elsewhere. She ended up coming into my new building to do a screen and ...yep....food on her shirt. YUCK.

We should be professional at all times...never know who might be watching.
