LSU CARE Fall 2020 Applicants

Published

I wanted to see who else is applying to the CARE program for fall 2020. I graduated in 2003 with an art education degree and decided this summer I would go back to school and get the nursing degree I always wanted. I am taking my last prerequisites this semester!

Me! Also working on my last pre-reqs this semester at Delgado.

I have a Bachelors of Arts that I completed a few years ago after dropping out of school just a few credits shy of graduation (original grad year would have been 2007.)

I loved the experience of going back to school and I'm SUCH a better student in my 30s than I had been in my 20s.

I feel the same! I am much better at retaining information now. People said that it would be hard to be an “older learner,” but I haven’t felt that way. My biggest challenge is just time management with kids and work, but it has come together.

I don't know how you parents do it!! Yall are superheroes. I work two jobs and have been taking 3 accelerated pre-reqs at a time to get myself used to the pace and workload. I haven't had much time for myself, much less a social life.

Personally, I shouldn't have gone to college straight out of high school. I was smart enough to slide by but didn't know myself well enough to pick a career and a goal. Now that I'm older and know what it is to hustle and have terrible jobs, I find it easy to buckle down and do the work and start this journey. I went from someone who hated science to gleefully explaining chromosomal disorders.

On a side note...I'm still thankful that LSUCARE doesn't require chemistry as a pre-req like other programs. That's a bad science experience I have no desire to relive. haha.

You and me both, lol! I took chemistry my first semester of college and got mono within the first month. It was a hard semester. I was taking that and biology and felt so overwhelmed. I am so glad they accept any physical science. Did you look at all the prerequisites Southeastern requires for their accelerated program? It is so much more.

Hey! I'll be applying for entry next year too. Currently finishing up my last few pre-reqs at a CC in south MS.

Welcome! Has anyone started the application, yet?

@Amanda_H_W I started the application process:) Does anyone know if our references have to write a letter or is it just the likert scale rating?

I think it is scale like questions with maybe a comment box at the end if they want to add anything.

I am a little confused about sending my Delgado transcript to NursingCAS. When I did Ole Miss’s transcript I just faxed in everything to Ole Miss and gave them a call to explain it. Delgado is using Clearinghouse and CAS doesn’t show up as an option. I guess we just attach the form?

Download the transcript form for Delgado. You'll need the number under the barcode. Do the electronic request process for Clearinghouse. There will be a spot to enter the number as mentioned above. The instructions on NursingCas for electronic requests was super helpful. Just take it step by step. Did mine last week for NSULA and Delgado and both were received and added to my application today.

Anyone stressing about references actually submitting on-time? I put in a Dec 31st deadline to give myself a few days to finalize my application before the Jan 15th deadline.

Been a week and a half. I emailed everyone to make sure they got it. And I can pester my boys to finish it on-time. I wonder if NursingCas sends a reminde or anything. I hate to annoy my academic reference especially given the time of year.

On a sidenote, my dad seems determined to jinx me. He keeps telling everyone that Im going to LSU already. No matter how much I explain it, he doesn't get how competitive the ABSN program is and how few students they take.
