LSU BSN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hi everybody,

Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.

I think you'll be ok if you don't get in for spring you would probably get in for fall. I know everyone wants in on their first try though. Trust me though not everyone gets accepted, when I went for the advising session last week they said that around 200 applied and they accepted 100 so it's a bout a 50% chance. If you have all your pre reqs completed by the time you apply that should put you ahed of people who haven't finished.

I'm applying for the Spring 2013 as well. I'm super nervous. Applications are due in August. I have a 3.2 for my pre-reqs and around a 3.1 overall. I'm freaking over the HESI. I don't think I'm going to do too good. :-(

What sucks is that I haven't heard of anyone who HASN'T made it into the school....I wish someone could tell me if they've ever heard of someone being rejected from LSU nursing on the first try....

So I took my HESI A2 test today. Overall, I got an 82.29%. The only section I did horrible in was Anatomy and Physiology. However, I haven't had those classes yet since I take those in nursing school at LSU if I were to get in. With that score and everything else, what are my chances of getting in for the Spring 2013?

@ funnywintergal, you have time to retake it if you want. I'm not sure how long you studied for it or what you used to study for it but there were some A&P questions that were not used in the HESI study manual. If you are able to retake it you should look at other study manuals for nursing school entrance exams that go over A&P in more detail. Also a good source to look at is A&P for Dummies. How did you do in the Critical Thinking section? I got a 780 but I'm not sure if that's good or not? I went to an information session at LSU a couple months ago and they said what a good score on the CT section is but I forgot what it was, I want to say it was in the 800's. If you are not able to retake the exam you still have an essay to work on if you're not happy with your scores. I think you should be ok but I really have no idea as well. Hopefully we'll both be at LSU Spring 2013!

Where can I take the Hesi

Thanks! I heard that the HESI is only 10% of what they're grading you on. I don't think they'll look too much into A&P since lsu students haven't had it yet. We take it in nursing school. I hope my essay gets me in. I think they accepted everyone from the fall applicants....

Hi Guys,

Just took the HESI and I'm actually more scared now than before taking the exam...I have a 3.5 pre-req gpa & a 70.57% on the HESI..I did really well on the non science parts but I bombed the a&p part, the chem and bio wasnt the best not to bad. I nervous as H-E- double hockey stick... can anyone give me some insight on whether I should retake or keep the score. I want to apply for the Spring 2013 intake and the app deadline is aug 15..so I would have to take the exam mid July..

:confused:How long does it take for LSU to recieve our results????

LSU receives the results immediately. Your GPA is awesome so I wouldn't worry about that. I would however try to retake the HESI if possible. You can always apply with that score and write an awesome statement paper and then see what happens. I have asked in the past what was the minimum HESI score they accept and LSU had told me there is so minimum. I once heard that the class average for the HESI is somewhere in the 70's but I'm not sure where I heard it from (maybe here?) and if it is true. Good luck and keep us posted!

Important question for all current LSUHSC nursing students! I am so confused about the scheduling. Is their anyway anyone can give me their exact schedule for their SOPH I semester? I dont know if we have to attend Physiology for both days on Tuesday and Friday and for Anatomy do I have to attend each day on Monday, Wedensday and Friday? And for the labs we only need to attend once a week right? And for intro to nursing since its only 2 credits a week we only need to attend one of the times? Please help :(

As far as I can remember you will need to attend all of the classes posted on the schedule; you especially don't want to miss any physiology classes. Good luck!

Hi Everyone!

So I am applying for Spring 2013 and am beyond nervous about getting in! I applied last semester to charity for the fall semester and didnt get in. So for the Spring I am applying to Charity and LSU however, I am dying to go to LSU! My pre-req gpa is 3.45 and I have not taken the HESI for LSU I will take it at the beginning of Aug. I took it for Charity and received 73%. How are my chances of getting in and is there any advice anyone can give me about the HESI? I have the book that they recommend and have been studying but want to try to do the best possible to try to better my chances of getting in. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

@ysanchez0216, you sound like me. I applied to Charity a while ago and didn't get in. I'm applying for LSU and Charity Spring 2013 but amd DYING to go to LSU. I took the HESI three times. Once for Charity in which I got an 82% and twice for LSU in which I scored 84% on both. I didn't study for them since I was breaking my back trying to get good grades in my Microbiology class. So I think if I had studied I would have done better, I'm a little upset about my grade. My pre-req GPA is a 3.5 and overall GPA of 3.1. My overall GPA frightens me, but what can I do? The book they give you for the HESI pretty much goes over it all. The vocabulary is taken STRAIGHT from the book. Also, if you go to the Elsevier website and sign in to your account you can look at your previous scores and they will tell you what areas you missed (like in Math it might say you got one question wrong concerning ratios and then they have study material to go over it). Also the LSU HESI will score on Critical Thinking. That was the hardest for me because it will be real life nursing questions. I don't know how to go over that except to get Fundamentals of Critical Thinking book. Good luck though! Also I heard that they will also grade you on your essay so make sure you have a kick a** essay!
