Lpn's

U.S.A. Minnesota

Would any Nurses that have been in the biz for a while let me know if it's true that LPN's are being slowly phased out? Or is that false?

Currently hoping to get into the Nursing program in a MN college.

I've been an LPN for 8 years and from what I've heard, this rumor has been circulating for years. I'm currently in an RN program but not in relation to this at all. I just wanted more professional opportunities.

BTW good luck on getting into the program! :)

I am currently in an LPN program and I just looked in the SUnday paper last week to see how many LPN positions were posted. It doesn't look like they are getting rid of them anytime soon. I have talked to a manager at hospital near my house, and she said that they were phasing/phased out LPN's at that hospital. She also said other hospitals have done or are doing the same. But I am under the impression that a majority of nurses in LTC facilities are LPN's. I know North Memorial still employs LPN's.

Specializes in Med/Surg, ER, L&D, ICU, OR, Educator.

They have been saying that for the last 15 years. They said the same thing about ADN as well, but neither have been proven to be true. We employ far more LPN's and ADN's than BSN's (because of the proximity of a trade school), and don't see it changing anytime soon.:)
