lpn whats to follow????

Hi guys and girls I'm a lpn student at Galen college of nursing in my third quater and I've always known I've wanted to be a .pediatric nurse and work in a hospital with newborns my thing is I want to go so much further my only thing is I started late I'm in my early 30's and a single mother of six and I'm just trying to get in a good stable career that would support me and my family.allowing us to live comfortably because God knows although we have done it together me and my children have felt what it is like to struggle I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions on the best and quickest route I should go to further my education and also any steps I should be taking now to get that experience because I know how hard it is to get a job as a new nurse. I don't want be an lpn forever and also dont want to be in school for the rest of my life either Lol.... please help any suggestions are appreciated :)

I am currently a student as well. I am a single mom and also an adult learner ;) Like you I want further my education. However I am taking it one step at a time. Have you looked at any Bridge programs in your area ? You may even be able to do an online course. You can work as an LPN and continue with courses online. Best of luck on your journey to becoming a nurse. :)

hey thanks for the suggestion,and Yes my school offers the bridge program but I'm not for sure I that I want to continue on with them because of their accreditation issues and I want to be able to transfer rn credits to another school in order to receive a BSN.I don't know if I was misinformed or not but I was told that I could skip the rn route and go straight for the BSN and as for online classes that's definitely a nogo for me I'm not that disciplined Lol I have to be in class! Just really looking for the shortest route possible. what school do you attend?and how far into the program are u?

I'm not sure about the schools/programs in your area but in the Hampton Roads area of Va we have a school that offers LPN to BSN program. I looked into it when I considered starting with LPN and then bridging to RN/BSN. But just as the traditional route, the LPN to BSN at this school is full-time and not online. I am a single mother as well but live with my mom and she doesn't work so I have a lot of help with childcare. So now my plan is to become an RN through a local hospital program receive my diploma then do a RN to BSN program online. But as you know already, God will see you through your schooling! I started in Sept but since my program is only avail half time, I am looking at at least another year. I attend a Boces program in NY. I don't have a background in the medical field my line of work before this was in Human Resources! Lol I wish there was a shorter route but I must complete this before starting an RN program. I have never taken any College courses online so I don't know if I would be that disciplined either! Lol however I assumed there wouldn't be a long waiting list for the ADN or BSN like there are at the schools itself! I guess I need to research this a bit more

It doesnt matter how old you are girl, you are never too old to go back to school, I have people in there 50's in my class ;). A bridge program is your best bet hun and I would have suggested online programs but you said you dont like them :( good luck hun.
