lpn vs cardiac sonography

That is easy ultra sound school, new ultra sound grads are starting at about 50,000 a year. You can specialize and make even more money... Lets see patients come to you, mostly out patient, you dont have to deal with poop, pee, caths, IV's medications, dressing changes, etc..

i am taking my last semester or prereq's, and im trying to decide if i should apply to lpn or ultrasound school. i always wanted to do(or thought i did) nursing, but a friend of mine was telling me that theres an ultrasound school in the area, and i started really considering it and it seems like it would be interesting.
what do yall think are the pros and cons of each choice? any help would be appreciated. i just have no idea what i should do right now
also, im worried about being able to find a job as a sonographer because when i do searches for it in my area nothing really comes up. but lpn positions do.
and the thing i like about lpn is that it seems like you would have alot of flexibility at work?!
any advice on what i should do?????

What I think I would do is ask around and see if the ultra-sound tech positions offer opportunities in your area. Maybe ask an honest professor in that program, or maybe they have a site similar to this, maybe (dunno for sure). It would certainly be a cleaner and higher paying job, but just be sure that you are almost assured of a position after graduation. I don't know anything about that career; making it a bit hard to advise, but that is the route I would probably go. I was interested in such a career years ago, but never pursued it. At this point, if the opportunity presented itself, I would probably transfer my credits in that sort of direction.

The US Tech schools in my area are advanced classes, which mean that you must have a 2 year health care degree already. Which really bummed me out.

I have a four year degree in something else and looked into Radiography at the same college I graduated from. The advisor told me that some hospitals only have so many sonography positions open vs. general radiography positions, which there seem to be more openings for. You might want to consider that route instead of the sonography track.

However, in the end, she told me it would take me until 2010 to finish a second degree (I have pre-reqs and the program is only offered each summer, and I wouldn't have the requirements to start this summer). So I'm opting for LPN.

One thing to check though is the Radiography dept. had a video tape "in the life of" what people in the field do. You might want to see if your local college has the same thing so you can get a better feel for if that's what you want to do. Good luck!

i found out that the school i was thinking about going to for ultrasound isnt accredited or anything. so thx anyway! :)
