LPN student uniform and other things needed

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Greetings!

I just needed to know the ff:

1. Do we have to wear uniform in class? Scrubs?

2. Do we have any other uniform during duty time?

3. How long are we going to start for our duty?

4. Does anyone here have a sample for curriculum or module that we are going to take first? and so on?

5. Do we have any other requirments to take care of like buying our own stethoscope, bp aparatus etc...?

Anyone with any input will be greatly apreciated. I know that school has different rules but i would appreciate if anyone will share from an LPN Vocational school.

I just want to ask as i wanted to budget for the coming Sept. class.

Thanks Very Much.

It depends COMPLETELY on the school that you attend. You really need to contact them, as this varies widely from place to place.

They should have a list of required supplies, as well as approximate costs.

Most places do require uniforms be worn at clinical. Scrubs are rarely permitted as uniforms. Each school tends to have a specific uniform as well as patches that clearly denote you as a student. You will also need shoes that meet the school's standards.

Books and such vary widely from school to school.

Most nurses should have their own stethoscope, pocket protector with bandage scissors, pocket notepad, calculator. I use hemostats, and keep a highlighter, a black sharpie, and several 4 color pens.

I have to wear scrubs to class, any kind we like. For clinical we have to wear the scrubs that the school provides for us with the name on it. It was apart of the tuition. I haven't been to clinical yet but we need a stethoscope and a pen light and a notebook before we start. My first classes are medical terminology, Fundamentals of Nursing, A&P. The books were apart of the tuition so we didn't have to pay out of pocket. Hope this helps and good luck!

It does depend on the school you are attending. I attended a community college, where they allowed us to wear casual clothes to class, but a specific uniform dress code with name pin, apron and patch with the school logo on it. We had to look identical. They tell you what to purchase, but as previously mentioned, you do need your own penlight, stethescope, watch with second hand (best to get a military watch), and nursing drug book. They will tell you which drug book to get when they give you the syllabus, but, I say to look at all of the drug books you see in the bookstore and see which one is best for you. My school chose the Davis Drug book, which, I hated with a passion. I found that Saunders was the best for me, but get what they tell you in the beginning so that you are in synch with them. Later, you may find something else that better suits you. Please, place money to the side, at least $1000 for the books and uniform. Heaven help you if you have to wear the uniform to class every day. You will need more than one because they are strict with appearence. It must be white, not off white, ironed and starched, shoes must be polished. Cut your nails, place your hair in a bun, or at least off of your shoulders, and no jewelry except a wedding ring. No runs in the stockings, and the socks must be white as well.

Best of luck!

The LPN program here requires that students wear a red scrub top and have a choice in red, black, and white in lab coats and pants--with name badge to all clinical locations. Street clothes are allowed in class--but neat and clean! Books are included in the tuition--but uniforms aren't--you order them after you start. I think they order shoes as well for clinical, which seems silly because I'm not going to buy a shoe unless I can try it on first!

I'm not sure what supplies they require when you start.

Been a few years since nursing school but it seems that you should be provided a list of necessities both mandatory and suggested with estimated costs. The required book list came out prior to each semester with and order form and price list. Some of mine I was able to get used at amazon.com less expensively.

The school I attended did not provide required text books with tuition and there was also a list of suggested books though the school library kept very limited copies of the suggested reading.

We were required to purchase the tops for our clinical uniform (3 are suggested & they were pricey) and name badge from the schools supplier. White scrub pants (and you'd better not be able to see through them!), lab coat (thigh length only), socks and shoes (no crocs) were requirements. Also mandatory were a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, black pens, pencils, notebooks, analogue watch with a second hand and white band, penlight and hemostats.

Only one small post earring per ear allowed and a ring only if you were married. Hair off your collar. Make up minimal to none. No perfume. Clean trimmed nails and no nail polish.

We were allowed neat casual wear in the classroom.

Greetings!

Thanks Very Much for the reply!
