LPN starting LTC Monday

Specialties Geriatric

I will be starting orientation Monday in LTC. I will be 7p-7a with 27 residents. Any advice, brain sheets, info, etc would be appreciated!

FYI - it's not a "throw you in" kind of facility. Very up-scale with high employee retention and training consist of 1 week on day shift and 3 weeks on night shift (which is mandatory by their policy).

Thanks!

Three weeks seems great! Night shift meaning PM right?

Yes it is 7p-7a. Three 12-hour shifts per week.

I like to use the census that the unit provides but a lot of my coworkers will use lined paper, dividing it into two columns and then going down each side listing the patient's name. (Creating a box for each patient.) They will write W or C for whole or crush, and two check boxes (one for each med pass time) so you can check off as you go. When I get report I like to write the last dose of an PRN's here. I wrote down any pain medicine and highlight in pink (P for pain) so I can easily access this later as my brain sheet gets crowded.

7p-7a with 27 residents is awesome sauce. You have 12 hours to get work done, ex charting, mars, tars, etc. this is a blessing! At my LTC job i work 3pm-11pm with 41 residents! Its enough to make me question my sanity! At my first LTC job however i worked a mix of 7a-7p and 3p-11p with 28 residents. That was a cake walk! Best of luck

I had to do a ratio like that at an old job, it was awful!
