I have an idea on how to assist current LPN's obtain their RN licenses. Why can't current LPN schools expand to also become LPN to RN transition programs? The college prerequisites would still be in place and would have to be completed at your local colleges. This would give LPN's additional opportunities to obtain their RN license without having to compete with non-licensed people.
Let me know your thoughts?
Thank you for your time

There is nothing stopping LPN programs from doing that now, if they are willing to meet the BON and accreditation standards and requirements. But it would be a huge effort and expense for the schools -- different requirements for the library, faculty, curriculum, etc. This is why most LPN-RN programs are offered by RN programs; they already meet the standards to be approved.

a local university does this now. One of the problems is that coursework for LVN's is not always on the same level as what is required for RN's. For instance, the algebra and A&P are not as comprehensive. So that may not transfer except as an elective. You are on the right track. We need to make it easier for transition.

The school where I teach does it. Year 1 is LPN, and year 2 is RN. It seems to be working very well.
