I've been wanting to get into nursing for years. I made the wrong decision to get into teaching! One thing holding me back is how long it will take to get an RN, and the pre-req classes weren't offered during my summers off or at night, so I've been putting nursing off.
So now I'm thinking of doing LPN first, since it's only 1 year. But what do LPN's make? I just read they make $40,000 in Texas, which is great becuase that's what I'm currently making. Any info is appreciated! I don't want to take a year off work, burn up my savings, and end up making peanuts. Any advise??? I'm really passonate about nursing!

I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. Most of the LPN/LVN jobs around here pay in the $16 to $23 hourly range. You'll earn less money if you work at a hospital, clinic, doctors office, or school. The pay is more competitive in nursing homes, home health, hospice, and rehab centers.
I earn $26 hourly and have 4 years of experience. This is because I choose to work at a facility that has a history of deep trouble with state surveyors.

the pay definately varies by location, but one thing you might think about is finding an LPN course that is in the evenings. the school that i went to offered an evening option. that way you dont have to take a year off of work.
