LPN to RN

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Hi!

I am graduating in 40 something days as an LPN. My original plan was to complete a+p and micro during PN school so that I could do a seamless transition into RN school...A year ago, I was forced to drop my pre req because I was hospitalized.. :crying2: I was able to complete the co reqs for LPN but did not finish my pre req for RN. I have completed english, pych, soc, ethics, and math. etc. what I have left is still a+p and micro. The next RN class starts in Sept..is it do-able in your opinions to go ahead with the original plan and complete the pre reqs as a co req? The academic advisor said there is no rules against completing them at the same time..historically it has just been easier for the students to complete them prior ..what do you all think? I have a good GPA..I hover between a 3.8 and a 4.0..but I don't know how much harder the course load is for RN ..what do you guys think? oh yeah, and I can always complete a+p 1 and micro this spring and summer..so really i would just have a+p 2 left, respectfully. thanks!

I would definately work closely with your counselors and assess how much time and energy you have to dedicate to school. I mean you don't want to over do it to the point that you are not fully applying yourself to the nurse courses. Also schools have different requirements, because schools in my area programs are so competitive no one could get into an RN or lpn-rn program with out having completed a&p, and wouldn't be the best candidate if they had practically done everything else as well. I don't know how hectic the program at your school is, I would suggest trying to talk with current or former students. (I was just accepted into a LPN- RN program myself and am keeping my fingers crossed that I can handle it). Do everything that you can prior to starting the program, it just makes things easier.

We had to have already passed all the prereqs before applying to the bridge program. Speak with your advisor.

I would take A&P I and Micro in the spring and then take A&P II in the summer. The workload for RN all depends on your school. At my school, I found there to be much more "busy" work than in the LPN program. I can't imagine doing an extra class, esp. a science, on top of clinicals & theory.
