LPN or RN which did or would you do?

Published

I am just starting my journey of applying for nursing schools...I already have my Bachelors in business but have decided Nursing is what I really want to do!

I'm looking at Concorde College's 50week LPN program or their 70week RN program...I've heard becoming an LPN is a waste of time and that employers are no longer hiring LPN's

Thoughts?

I agree - it depends on what you want to do.

Locally, LVN's mostly work in LTC. We do have one LVN in our acute setting but she is also an EMT and has her IV certification.

Is your heart in geriatrics? That is an honorable job.

Or is your heart somewhere else?

What is the hiring like where you want to work?

I would love to work in Pediatrics or OB/GYN-maternity ward...

Not sure on the hiring I've been looking and there seems to openings...I live in Colorado.

I forgot to mention I went straight to RN and if I'd been young and right out of high school, I would have done the BSN route.

That is the advice I give kids in high school. One young man is in his 2nd year at a local university. I especially like to encourage men to think about a career in nursing.
