A little venting and a little advice needed....
I just moved to Peru, IL 8 months ago and am so frustrated with the State of Illinois b/c no college offers a TRUE lpn to rn bridge program. They all just use you to fill in their spots from the students who failed out or dropped out from the RN programs. Everyone keeps screaming for more nurses, but we can't get into the programs!
Anyone know the wait times on these programs, esp JJC? Any other programs that anyone would recommend, maybe in Peoria, Bloomington, etc? I don't want to do a BSN program either b/c I already have a BS and I really want to get my Associates and then apply for Rush's Online Master's Program! It's the least expensive way for me and I am determined to do it.
If I can get into the JJC program is there anyone from Morris that is in the program who I could bum a ride off of? My husband is going to kill me if I end up having to drive 100 miles round trip!
Thanks,
Gail

Welcome to the Ilinois Forum!
I have lived in the JJC District for pretty much most of my life, and the wait list is pretty long. In fact, have heard that the school MAY be going to a lottery system. You happen to be in the IVCC District, and JJC would look at that. Schools tend to go with "In District" students, first.
As for "true Bridge programs"????? Can you elaborate?

Doesn't IVCC in Oglesby offer a second year of study for LPNs to complete the RN program? I know they used to, as some of my co-workers in Ottawa completed the RN program there, but that was a number of years ago.
Is Kishwaukee CC in DeKalb closer to you than JJC?
I can sympathize with you, as there are not a lot of programs within driving distance.
Good luck!
In many states they have LPN to RN bridge/mobility program and accept 20 or more students to that program each year. While here the number varies depending on how many drop out or fail out. When I spoke with IVCC they indicated that their drop rate was low. They also only accept in the Fall and I am too late for that. So, I am trying to find a school who accepts in the Spring. I am fairly competitive as I have a BS and 3.37 GPA from nursing school. I also have all courses except Nursing completed, ie Micro, etc. But I think this is actually hurting me b/c they aren't making enough money off of me since I only need 3-4 nursing courses at most of the CC.

Mine was a true bridge program. I spent 6 vigorous weeks in the summer and went right in to the last year of ADN program. Im a little farther south maybe than you want to go, and i dont know what the wait time is anymore. I finished up a few years ago. Good luck and keep the dream in sight.
Meowsmile,
What school was your program? I am willing to drive in order to get finished!
