Lpn or Rn program in loudoun county?

Published

Hi,

I am totally lost:(. I don't know which one, I should do? I have a family already so I was considering the lpn programm because I am not sure about going to school for a long period of time, but cannot find any school in my area. But at the same time I heard some funny things about lpn so maybe rn. I keep suching and I am not going very far. Any help will be welcome. Because I fell like I am wasting time right now!

I recommend the RN program at Northern Virginia Community College. It's inexpensive compared to a lot of the LPN programs. I also heard (and I could be wrong!) that some hospitals are phasing out LPNs and having their LPNs become RNs. NOVA's RN program is really 3 years including the prerequisites, but they do have an accelerated program also which is a little bit shorter, I believe.

Good luck!

Kelly

That's what I was thinking about doing nova but I need to go there and be tested I think I will take me more than 3 years though!!! (because I won't be able to go full time) Thanks for your answer.

Hi. Im currently in my 1st year, second semester at NVCC. There are pre-reqs to get into the course, plus one has to do various testing such as an English and math placement, a computer proficiency exam, and as well an entrance exam, used to be TEAS (it stil may be).

NVCC has many options!

1)the regular way, classes, lab time, clinicals monday to friday (not every day, this semester, I have NUR 118 mon 1300-1600. Tuesday I have lab from 0800-1000, and CLS from 1100-noon. And Wed I have clinical which is from 0800-1600) So off the rest of the week! NUR 118 is only on Monday, BUT the other classes go throughout the week!!

2) They have a class that run Friday/Saturday. One does al classes on one day, and on the other you do your clinical!! And it goes all throughout the summer!! So one finishes 6 months ahead of the normal route

3) and now they have an online option. Of course lab and clinical are done in the lab or hospital!!

Here is a link with lots of info

http://www.nvcc.edu/medical/health/nursing/nur_info.htm

and near the bottom/middle is states "HERE" click on that, and it brings up the exact same powerpoint presentation they show at the information sessions!!

So one has a lot of flexibility!! And if ya can finish others courses such as the Psychology's pharmacology, communications classes ahead of time, your laughing!! thats what I did, just a buit less to worry about. Best of luck

you should definently go to school for RN. As a RN you will have more job opportunities and you will be respected more.Try to find a RN program that is only 2 years long. LPN pay is not so good especially if you have a family. I started out as a LPN and then I went to a 2 year RN program. Now im making $30 working night shift in the ICU and I love it.

I did not see your answer until today!!!!Thank you so much for the info I am going to look into what you said. Right now I know that I will have to do eng 111 + 009 and for math I am pretty sure I will have to do 004 I still need to get tested.

I would love to do the programm on friday / saturday but summer to me is too close I havent' figure out yet money wise. But I will start I guess august 29th for the fall schedule:D.

That's what I decide to do too based on what I read but for the pogramm to be only 2 years long I don't know since day care is crazy expensive out here and I don't have family close by I am pretty much stock with my babies so I'll do as much as I'll be able to handle.

Hi Divine Mercy 12 i was wondering what RN program you went to.

If you could please let me know I would appriciate it.

Thanks in advance.
