Lvn to RN certificate of achievement

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am currently a LVN/ LPN in California and was looking into getting a certificate of achievement for RN. Once I pass the nclex, Would this be considered enough to go into a RN to BSN program ? Is the RN certificate only limited to the state that I am currently in? I really want my BSN but every route seems so long or expensive. Please help

If you're talking about the 30 unit option, it is highly advisable to NOT do it as it does not merit any degree of any sort. If you did end up getting your bachelors down the line, you'd be considered pre-licensure, I believe, unless you go the LVN-BSN route. Either way you're paying.

What do you mean prelicensure? When I take the 30 unit option I would be getting a associates of nursing for my LVN /LPN along with my RN certificate . Most colleges I spoke with for their RN to bsn programs require active RN license and associates degree of nursing.

Here is the CA BRN description of the 30-unit option:

Quote

LVN 30 Unit Option

Designed as a career ladder for California Licensed Vocational Nurses wishing to become registered nurses. Takes approximately 18-24 months. No degree is granted upon completion. Most other states do not recognize California's LVN 30 Unit Option and will not issue RN licenses to these LVNs. Some LVNs prefer to complete an ADN program in order to obtain a degree and to have the flexibility to get an RN license in other states. Most ADN programs will give LVNs credit for some of the coursework they completed to become an LVN.

Prelicensure would be considered no nursing degree experience. So you have your RN license, but do not hold an Associates Degree or Bachelors in nursing. There is a way around it - kinda - but it's kinda grey. For example, I have an Associates of Science in Allied Health. If I did the 30 unit and obtained my RN, I'd TECHNICALLY have an ADN. VERY FEW SCHOOLS ACCEPT THIS THOUGH. The only one who will take it that I have confirmed in . Everyone else said they'd have to look into it, but weren't sure.

This college along with others say I will receive a associates degree in science after completion of the program.

This is what Pasadena city college says on their website.

I think you and I are both getting an Associates Degree in nursing and the 30 unit option confused. The screen shot above says Certificate of Achievement WITH Associates. 30 unit option is ONLY the Certificate of Achievement.
