Hello my fellow nurses! I'm currently a Lpn and I was wondering, does it matter what school you attended for your Lpn for transition program?

do they automatically count your license and you are just required to take pre reqs? By the way, I went to Everest! 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Hello everyone!

Was wondering if you are already an lpn, can you participate in lpn to rn transition program or does it matter what school you attended for lpn? For instance, i attended everest. I am aware that they dont accept our credits, but does that make me exempt from participating in lpn to rn? Or will i have to do just rn asn?

As long as you have a valid nursing license, in my opinion, it shouldn't matter where you received your practical nursing education IF you can produce transcripts. As for prereqs, yes, you would take those and they would depend on how the school's curriculum compares to your LPN program transcripts.

My very first attempt at transitioning was a no-go because the school had long since closed and there was no way to obtain transcripts. The college would not accept that I had a valid nursing license with years of experience working as an LPN. They quickly redirected me to their generic program. I took four general education courses, 3 CLEP exams, and walked away from the thought of becoming an RN for another 6 years to come. I just couldn't accept that my >16 years of LPN experience was going to be completely disregarded.

So, if you graduated from an approved practical nursing program, you should be good to go.

WOW! That is so disappointing! Well that would be my situation too because Everest is not accredited. This sucks!!! And this was for Ivy Tech?

No, this was for a general LPN-RN bridge program. CLEP is College Level Examination Proficiency. Look up The College Board - College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool.

My program was accredited but a local vocational/technical school took over, and a couple of years after that, it became a technical college. In the midst of all the changes, our paper transcript files became lost in the void apparently.

CLEP exams are exams that you choose to study at your own pace and when you feel you know the material, you register and take the test for college credit. Passing the exam exempts you from taking the 16-week course in a classroom. It's a faster path to your degree if your selected program accepts CLEP exams.

However, these exams are graded with a score, usually a minimum score of 50 is needed to pass. Some people opt for the class instead so that they can receive an actual letter grade for GPA purposes.

Everest is one of the worst colleges out there. None of your credits will transfer anywhere.

Most likely, you will have to start over. Sorry. Ivy Tech is a legit community college and Everest is not. Be prepared to start over.

Yes, it matters. LPNs who completed their practical nursing education at regionally accredited community colleges, state universities, public technical colleges, or public adult education centers have an easier time obtaining transfer credit than those who attended investor-owned trade schools.

The major difference lies in how the credit was issued. Trade schools usually grant credit in clock hours, whereas community colleges and state universities grant credit in semester hours or quarter hours.
