Hello,

Im from Ny and im currently in an LPN to RN program at Helene Fuld. Has anyone attended that school? any tips on passing nursing 221?

Hello guys,

I see a lot of recent post regarding Helenefuld and you guys are right! It like ancient reviews but it hasn't changed. Helenefuld is a really tough school for anyone who has to work full time and have kids or even just for a person without kids. I struggled but I made it through. I have to admit that it is truly a rigorous program in terms that each session is about 9-10 weeks. It's shorter than regular semesters in any other schools and thats why its fast track. You will hear horror stories of this school and if you have a goal in mind to finish your RN, I suggest you just study your very best to pass all the exams. You have no life. Make sure you keep good contact and make friends because it will help. Professors change like every half a year or at least during my time. This school has a really tough time keeping their professors; they drop like flies. Nursing 221 is tough. All the courses are tough because of how short each sessions are. The best way to study 221 is by using other sources. I used ATI books to review materials because with the exact textbooks they require you to get, there isn't enough time to read through and grasp everything. Do questions, lots of questions that will help. Goodluck and you will make it! Keep saying that to yourself. Do not lose focus. If you are working, you needs to take some days off before the exam and focus.

Can u tell me about the teas entrance test

I took the teas 3 years ago in 2016. I’m not sure if it has changed. The English portion is an essay and that is taken a diff day. Math and science is taken on the computer. The passing score I do not know. They don’t tell you. They send you a letter once you pass to return for the English portion and you must get a 3 out of 3 to get exempt from their English classes. If not, you must take English with them.

thanks so much for your insight. I recently passed the TEAS exam and have been trying to get in contact with the school to no avail. I’m trying to get my ducks in order but it’s been hard to get any info from the school :(

After the Teas exam they send you information about the prerequisite that you must take. There's the Skill Nur 121 and the Math/chem class. They will send you the schedule and you will pick the classes and sign up to the classes. They will have you do a deposit for the class first or pay the entire cost of the class. I did the classes one at a time but some people did both at the same time and was able to enter into the program faster. I would suggest you finish all your prerequisite before entering the program because to do both is a lot of work. You want to focus just on the nursing courses. I did both the nursing courses and the prereq the same time but it wasn't a good decision I made because I was also working full time. I regretted the decision because I was a zombie most of time. I did it! but for those going into it, my advice is to do prerequisite first then do the nursing courses alone. Nursing classes alone is a lot of materials and readings. Goodluck guys!

Hello, I am also a student here at Helene Fuld. I’m taking Nursing 221 ( Med Surg 1 ) at the college now. I must say, to listen to the previous post. She is correct when she said “do not take nursing courses with prerequisite courses”. I was one of those students that took a nursing course with a prerequisite course and failed. I failed the nursing course, but passed the Anatomy course. So now here I am, retaking nursing 221. And for some reason everything is clicking now. Passing here at the college is a 78%, actually 77.5% because of the rounding up system. Yes, the course is 10 weeks long, which seems like a lot of time but is not when you have three exams plus the finals +4 quizzes plus care plans. Its doable though, I have classmates from my LPN program that graduated from Helene Fuld and are signed up for bachelor program, and also other friends ? that are getting ready to graduate as well. Honestly, if you put your mind to it, just like anything else you’ll pass. We all know nursing is not easy.

OK how do I study. After every Lecture, I read the PowerPoint once i get home. Just to reinforce the information. Also, Helene Fuld will offer you the online textbook to the course. When I first took nursing 221 ( Med surg )I paid for the online book over $200. I hated it.? So I ended up buying the older edition to the textbook for $20 on Amazon?. However,Well let me say the good thing about the online textbook is the textbook reads to you, it has videos, you can print important pages. So what I do is, I sign in to the online textbook, and make it read to me, while I follow in the older edition book ? which has the exact same information with my high lighter . I highlight all important information. After I do that, and I understand the material, I read my Saunders RN Nclex book, And answer all the questions from there. Then, I answer all the questions from my MedSurg success book it’s a purple book. Then I read over the power points again. Yes, I work full time nights at A nursing home. Maybe I can study for a hour and a half while there. I studied for 4hours during the day as well. And for the most part I’m doing pretty fine in the course. One thing with nursing school you never know, you just always on the edge with your grades. But I can say, if you really want to get your RN degree in one year or year and a half- do it. I recommend it, I’m doing it. Just my only recommendation, do not take a prerequisite course with the nursing course. however I do know people that passed - but they passed by the skin of their teeth. My union is paying - I have 1199 - so that’s another reason why I am here at Helene Fuld. We are all adults, we know its going to be rough. But we will make it. Let me know if you have any questions

Hi everyone,

seriously thanks so much for your help and insight...it really means a lot! I’m relocating to the area and it’s been difficult to get ahold of anyone to provide me with information on what the next steps are after passing the TEAS in addition to getting my ducks in order. Have any of you guys CLEPd any of your pre-requisite courses? How are the prerequisite courses/nursing skills class?

I haven’t been given the orientation date/start date yet, so it’s making me a little nervous when I’m trying to get things prepared and answer any last minute questions lol. But seriously, thank you for your help/insight again!!

I am applying there for LPN-RN program. can you please share your insight about the teas? did they use ati teas version-6? how did you prepare yourself? especially, for reading portion? thanks
