lpn to rn info please

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

I'm an lpn, I need information about lpn to rn programs. I've searched several schools, would like to try something online, d/t the convenience. I r/o TCN, not many very good responses on here about them. Does anybody have any suggestions about Excelsior College? They really sound good, but I would have to go to Atlanta GA to complete my clinicals. Also, do you'll suggest adn or bsn? thank you, any info would be greatly appreciated.

With Excelsior you can no longer do the BSN unless you are already an RN. As for the CPNE, you do not have to go to Atanta. You can choose to attend the clinical at any of the available sites. You can find many threads on this subject with lots of suggestions. Start by going to the Excelsior web site http://www.excelsior.edu. You can get a good idea of what you need to do there. One good way to approach this: take as many of the required courses as possible prior to signing up with Excelsior. You will save time and money. You also will give yourself maximum time to get the nursing portion finished. This is important for two reasons. One is that each year after you enroll, you will be required to pay a fee just to stay enrolled. So you don't want to dilly dally and waste time. Another reason is that you have a seven year time limit, so you want to reserve this time for the nursing portion. You can take your courses at your local community colleges, or take tests with Excelsior itself, CLEP, or DANTES. You can take the first nursing test with Excelsior without being enrolled. Then you must enroll to take the others. If you are already an LPN/LVN, you may be exempt from the second nursing test. This should be enough to get you started. Spend some time researching the multitude of threads about Excelsior on this forum. Good luck with your decision to go Excelsior.
