What is the best way to get my RN through distance learning in VIRGINIA?? I don't think Virginia recognizes Excelsior, so what can I do? Does Virginia recognize Indiana State University? Does anyone know what my options are for LPN to RN distance learning in Virginia??? I am at a lost now that Virginia doesn't recognize excelsior!!! I was really counting on that!

I would call the Board in VA to find out which programs they do, or do not accept. Another way to find out is to call the school itself. Don't write a program off your list until you find out for certain what the current status is.

the virginia board of nursing maintains the virginia board of nursing guidance documents webpage.
please refer to the guidance document 90-20, guidance on distance learning in rn or pn education programs for information on acceptable programs.
i hope this information was helpful.

Virginia WILL accept an Excelsior credential IF you have 960 hours of practice time in another jurisdiction. You can gain those hours through a federal job or if you happen to be close to DC, this may be a viable option. While a bit discouraging, I am trying to think of this as paid clinical time. It is about the same number of clinical hours as required for a BSN .... but you get paid. If you can manage the logistics, it is not bad.
