LPN program in the Philippines

hi! i'm new here. i've been reading about the lpn programs in California, and seems like the cost is just too much.

i'm from the philippines. i'm being petitioned by my us citizen husband to become a permanent resident. i was thinking, since i really want to work in the medical field once i get there, that while i'm waiting for my visa to be approved, to study lpn here since it's way cheaper. the thing is, i can study there, alright, but i believe that private or even adult schools in cali have pre requisites that i'm afraid i do not meet.

- i do not hold any degree. i had a stint at a university, but being a dumb kid, i rebelled and ended up quitting. thus, my grades aren't, well, something that would impress any admissions officer. all in all, i was only in college for about two years. and that was what, 6 years ago. i understand that in order to be accepted to a program, that i should have at least a US- equivalent high school diploma, which is another dilemma, considering basic education here in the PI is only for 10 years, as compared to 12 in the US.

- i have never worked in the medical field. NEVER. all the jobs i've held in my life were customer service related. marketing associate, technical support, helpdesk. i understand it's a plus if you have medical experience.

given the circumstances, any advice on the best course of action will be very appreciated.

one more thing, if i end up studying here in the Philippines, will my certificate be recognized in California?

Since LPNs are not recognized or licensed in PI you would not be able to get a license in CA since they will require you to have a local license (a license from where you trained). Read the sticky at the top of the Philippines Forum.

This is not exactly correct as it pertains to the RN and not LVN. If you have a secondary certificate from the Philippines, you can have a credentialing service verify it's equivelent to US graduation. Have you tried an adult school in CA for the LVN program? If you decide to do an LPN program in the Philippines, CALL THE BOARD FIRST before attending or paying money. Avoid any distance or online learning programs as they will not be accepted
