LPN Program-Erwin, Gaylen, Concorde...which is better? (Tampa, FL)

Published

Hello to all,

I am currently a HCC student who has applied to the Nursing program and have been denied. I am thinking about getting my LPN license and possibly a transition program after that. When I started college I did not do so well my first couple of semesters (young and stupid). Unfortunately, I was taking science classes at the time. This has not helped my "pre-rec" gpa.

Does anyone have any advise as to where the best LPN program is in Tampa, FL? or If getting my LPN license is even a good idea?

All help is greatly appreciated! :)

I am currently attending Galen's ADN program and love it. I graduate May 09 from Galen's LPN program and I must say it was a year of hard work. Galen is hard but the education I received is top notch. Galen really teaches their LPN's with the mindset of an RN since many go on to becoming an RN. My clinicals were very diversed and I had a lot of good on hands experience. Galen really makes sure you get the best possible clinical experience. You also graduate know you are ready for the NCLEX. My class had a 100% pass rate.

I will be graduating in November from the ADN program and I haven't regretted any of the money I have invested in my career. I may have large student loans but it is well worth it for the education I have received. I plan on going to University of Tampa to receive my BSN starting next year. I know without a doubt I will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX after graduation and have no issues in passing.

I am so glad you posted, it's nice to hear from those in the RN program!!! I am currently in Galen's LPN program, I began in Feb 2010 - however I froze during the midterm CPE (bolus) and did not pass ( I also missed a couple of labs and paid the price) :crying2: , so am repeating Fundamentals and will be graduating with the May 2011 class. I continued Science/Nursing Health... passed those with flying colors!!! :)

I must say - I too really like Galen. Yes, it is hard work.. I spend ALL my spare time studying, but I love it! I love my clinicals, my clinical instructor and all the fantastic stuff I am learning and actually doing.. and am so excited to move into the hospital site in a few weeks. I would recommend Galen to anyone, I already have my Saunders NCLEX-PN book and use it daily. I helps me with our tests in class and I know that the next 9 months will fly by!

Your so right about them teaching in the mindset of an RN, I realized last week we are studying and keeping in the mindset of an RN, all of our "critical thinking" is very detailed - as you know...

Your path for school is exactly what my plans are... I think that is so cool!!!! I plan on staying at Galen thru LPN and getting my RN - I will be starting the RN program in May 2011, then going to UT.I have already gone over and talked with the admissions staff at UT and they love Galen students. Interestingly enough my ortho surgeon's wife took this same path a few years ago and is now a nurse practitioner. Please let me know how it goes for you... do you plan on starting UT as soon as you are done in November. You are in the same graduating class as one of my favorite people at Galen - JG. She has been truly an inspiration to me.

Well, back to my care plan!!! :nurse:

Take Care -

Congrats it sounds like you are all doing very well. I was wondering for you Galen and/or Erwin students - where do you do your clinicals at? Thank you for your help!!
