LPN Phramacology Class

Published

What do you serving LPN/LVN's remember about your pharmacology class in school? Was it as bad as you thought...or worse? And finally, what small piece of advice would you give those who are just pharm class?

I remember it being not as bad as I thought. I was expecting the worst... having to know everything single thing about every single drug and being tested on them. I thought it would be the class I would fail.

Not even close. The tests I took focused on classifications and the drugs in those classes. For instance, picking Beta Blockers in a multiple choice question or choosing the correct action of an anti-anxiety in a multiple choice. (All our tests were NCLEX-based to get us ready for the boards).

My advice is to make yourself very familiar with the drugs your clinical patients are taking. We made drug reference cards and carried them around in our pockets during clinicals. There's another thread here somewhere that someone posted stated the endings of drug names. If you can remember that most drugs in each class have the same ending and familiarize yourself with them, you'll be fine.

Honestly, pharmacology is not as bad as you think. Yes, you'll have to study and yes its alot of memorization... but its not that bad.

Thanks, Feisty!

I was looking at one of my drug books and thinking to myself, "Jeez, ONE of these drugs goes on for three pages (in small print no less!) Am I going to have to learn ALL of these?

Enough to give a new student the willies! And remember, new students can think up ALL KINDS of bad things! lol.
