LPN to New RN Grad 2018

Hello everyone,

I've been a LPN for 6 years. In those 6 years I have experienced a lot more than the average LPN. I've worked in LTC, ICF, Ambulatory (pediatrics and sickle cell department), and Homecare. I've also had the opportunity to work as a Unit Charge Nurse for 1 year. I will graduate from nursing school ion May 2018.

Recently, a HR representative from CHS (Carolinas Healthcare System) visited our class to discuss recruitment. I was highly disappointed to learn that their starting pay is $21/hr. Despite my 6 years of working as a LPN I would NOT receive additional compensation. I would be taking a $3 pay cut.

I turned my interest to Novant Health (Presbyterian). From asking around I was told their New RN Grad pay is around the same as CHS. I am stunned.

I have made so many sacrifices and taking a pay cut is a huge slap in the face. I am aware that nursing is not a profession where you get rich but taking a pay cut is just ridiculous.

Does anyone know if insurance companies or pharmaceutical nursing would hire a new RN grad? I really hate to label myself as such because I have a lot more hands on experience. Yes I will be a new grad but there has to be something out there for me.

Any suggestions from my fellow nurses?
