Hello, all,
At age 50, following a layoff after 15 years as a bank marketing executive, I decided to become an LPN. I'm now working as one in an assisted living facility.
I had been planning to get my RN or BSN, but I've begun to consider earning a Master of Public Administration instead. Does this sound like a good career path, i.e., one where I could get a job and make a difference? I would go to school part time, while continuing to work as an LPN.
Would also like to state that I believe the RN courses would have been very difficult for me as someone who is not mathematically or scientifically gifted. (My undergrad degree is in English!) That's another reason that the MPA route is appealing to me.
Thanks for your feedback!

I admire you - it takes courage to starting all over in a different career field.
I have no idea what type of job you would be looking for with an MPA. This is not a degree that is commonly associated with management positions in health care. Is that what you are looking for?
LPNs generally work in LTC, so you must be considering this. If so, here's an off-the-wall suggestion for you. Have you looked into becoming a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator? Many NHAs happen to have nursing backgrounds, but it is not necessary. The requirements vary, but in most states you only need a Bachelors' degree to get started... take the required courses and sit for your licensure. Take a look, it may appeal to you.
