Starting school next month and nervous.

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Friends,

I have read many threads about this same subject, but I want advice. I am starting LPN school at a private tech school. It is the cheapest school that I can find without a waiting list. ($21,000) Other schools want more. Public schools have waiting lists, and I am not really a patient person.

The school is in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Cambridge institute. The school has relationships with Orlando Health, and Florida Hospital. (Both are major hospital systems in central Florida.) Although I do not plan on applying to hospitals until I am an RN, I do like the fact that they have relationships with the school. I am an CNA/HHA for a agency and I do enjoy taking care of people. But I want to do more than CNA work, so LPN school was my next step in my journey.

My question is, have anybody in the Orlando area have any comments on this school. And what should I expect in LPN school? is it super intense? hard? What should I expect in clinicals? Thank you so much!

Hello! Not sure about Orlando because I'm from Pennsylvania, but I'm 4 months into LPN school and it is VERY intense. There is a lot of work in a short period of time. It's possible though. I have learned to study ready and study lol. Use ur ATI books and do all questions after each chapter. Take notes. My classmates and I have a chat group just for us in which we post assignments and share our information. Stick together if u can. Clinicals are not that bad to me. I like hands on. Just remember when ur in clinicals that YOU are the student nurse. U have an important job. Ask as many questions and do not be afraid to say that you do not know or understand something. I promise I asked majority of the questions but I like clarification! Hope this helps. Good luck!

Have you tried Orlando tech. They are a fraction of the cost and it is through OCPS. You can work at an urgent care (centra care), Florida Hospitals home care or hospice of the comforter, in any of their medical groups and Orlando health hires LPNs for Labor and Delivery. I have all my pre reqs done for RN and I'm at Keiser but if the Jan program fills up I'll do my LPN with Orlando Tech. It's 10 months because I'm already a CNA

If you've already graduated and are looking for a job my school with OCPS is hiring an LPN! Their amazing there! Here is my email if you or anyone you know are interested [email protected]

How do you like being a school nurse ?

I actually love it. I have kids in High School so for me it is very convenient. I work with elementary school aged kids and that gives me such a good feeling because they are so young and innocent, always eager to learn. I like being a good influence on their health.
