Finally Getting Started

Im just a new student to nursing so new that my program isn't scheduled to start until next month so I want to be ready what better place to get informed than a site where all the nurses and nursing students go to connect and support one another

Hi everyone so I just joined the site I wanted to get connected with fellow nurses and nursing students. I was so happy to find out about a site that could connect and help all in this chosen field. I am getting ready to start my LPN program next month. I believe in the program and school I have chosen. There is nothing like being around like minded individuals who have been there and done that. Being able to gain knowledge from others that could help me through things that some text books just can not is what I am after.

I want to be prepared and having access to others that have been where I am headed or on my same path is a must. I am super excited and nervous but definitely ready. I just want a bit of advice on ways to get prepared or some tips on what to look out for or what to get into. I feel like I have looked up so many different things to prepare myself but I am all over the place because I do not know what to expect. I have wanted this for quite some time. I intend to make it happen.

I feel it is great starting as an LPN then becoming an RN. But is that a must? I may love my career as an LPN and not want to go back for an RN program. I may just not feel the need. These are things I am curious about some people make it seem like It's not an option to remain an LPN. They say things like why become an LPN when eventually you will have to go back for your RN license? No offense but I just want to be a nurse. There must be a place to just be an LPN or the position would not exist.

I also feel like this is a career you need to love so it should not be just about making more money not that it is not awesome to have more money but it should not make the decision for you. It seems like it took me a while to get to this point as this has been a dream of mine for a long time. I am glad it is finally attainable and my time to pursue it. Any advice or help is appreciated I am just ready to dig my heels in and get this title!!! My family has my back and have been pushing me to go for it. I have been on this journey for some time. I am sure you all know that sometimes life hits you and throws a loop in your plans. There were times I just was not ready, times when I had to put my family first and give up what I wanted but I know that right now is the time. God said go for it so I know it is right everything is in place.

All is well so I am happy and ready. Becoming a nurse for me is more than meeting a goal it is a since of accomplishment sure but it is more than that. It is confirmation of my calling and means a better financial situation for my family. I want to be more than prepared because failure is not an option for me. My success is going to benefit more than just me. I also want to be the great for my patients and any staff I am over or under in the hierarchy of things. So lay it on me beautiful people. I am open to advice, critique, suggestions anything. I am here for it all so please share experiences and whatever could be helpful.

Good for you for starting your LPN program next month. There are plenty of good resources out there to help you succeed. I got to my LVN program when I was 30 and now that I'm finished I'm still planning on pursuing my RN. Yes, there will be people saying "Why go to LVN when you can just work on RN?" Well, if wait lists weren't so long I probably would have gone with RN however; in my case since I wanted to get into the nursing profession in shorter period of time and actually get the feel of it I decided to go with LVN. I can say right now, that is enjoy your time with family and get what you need to get done while you're not in school yet because once you start your LVN program you will be busy with studying, going to clinicals, taking exams, etc. that you won't have as much time to commit to others and it's a good thing your family is supporting you in your decision to start LVN school. Having that support goes a long way especially studying a rigorous nursing program (LVN or RN). Right when your program starts, get a planner or use your calendar on your phone and plan out your days and when to study for exams (although you should always be doing something when you're not in lecture). Thank you for your advice I will make sure I use my calendar to plan out study times it will also help me to get my family in line with my study times lol so I'm not disturbed to much. I appreciate the time you took to comment on my post as I am truly ready to step into this role but I know it will be time to buckle down soon and get busy.

Thank you I'm very excited about it and I will definitely be posting here and there and seeking more advice I'm sure as I go thru school finish and start my career I would love to work with an OB/GYN or become a Pediatric Nurse or even work with special needs children as my son special needs so it's close to home and what we spend time advocating about. I know this will be a faster way to start my nursing career but I do plan on going further once I get my sea legs so to speak and pay my dues lol í ¾í´— Thanks for sharing the Path to LPN link as well it was very informative I bookmarked it!
