Moving to another state

  1. Hi,

This is my first time posting, and I was curious as to whether one can get an LPN job in another state (Ohio) after training and passing the NCLEX-PN in California. I am still a student, but thought some of you might have some input.

I recently moved to Texas from California. I completed a Los Angeles-area LVN program last year and moved to Texas one month after graduation. Since my school had already sent my paperwork to the California BVNPT, I took my NCLEX in Texas but for California licensure. I passed and sent the $100 check to the California BVNPT in order to receive my California LVN license number.

Once I received the California license number online, I immediately applied to the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners to endorse my California license into Texas. Within a few days I received a temporary Texas LVN license in the mail, and within a few weeks I received my permanent Texas license. Just keep in mind that NCLEX can be taken anywhere it is offered and it only needs to be taken once.

Here is a link to the different BON's; don't forget some States require Continuing Ed. for license renewal.
