Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hey guys!

I'm graduating LPN school this June (June 12th hurry up!) and I plan on taking my boards right away and going right on to RN school. I would love to work part time as an LPN somewhere while finishing my RN. I was wondering where my fellow LPN's work, if you like it or hate it and how you get treated at your job. I'm really concerned about all these things because I always hear horror stories about how LPN's get treated in the workplace! When I did my nursing home rotation I HATED IT :sour:!!! Now I'm doing Med/Surg in the hospital and I'm obsessed! So I know I definitely need to go on for my RN ASAP to get a hospital job! Anyway, whatever info you could give me would be great! Thanks ya'll!!

I worked as an LVN/LPN for 4 years, from 2006 to 2010, before earning my RN license. I basically spent all 4 of those years in nursing homes due to the higher pay. In the area where I live (Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas), hospitals don't pay LVNs/LPNs squat.

While attending an LPN-to-RN completion program, I worked full-time 16 hour weekend double shifts as an LVN in a nursing home from 6am to 10pm every Saturday and Sunday. This schedule enabled me to work 32 hours every weekend while having Monday through Friday off to attend school full time.

Look for rural hospitals in your area they sometimes employ LPNs on their med/surg floor

Thanks for the input guys!
