Hey girls,
Just wondering if any LPNs/RNs knew of any good places to work that hire LPNs..Either hospitals or assisted living facilities. I am new to the area and have no idea what areas are good etc. Thank you!

Hi, I work at Nortons in Louisville. I can tell you that they are not going to be hiring LPN's anytime in the near future. The downtown DON is very firm about her belief that LPN's have no place in an acute care setting. It is unfortunate, and even incorrect, but there it is. Most of the other local hospitals have stopped hiring LPN's also. I have been trying to find another job for sometime.
The solution is, of course, to become and RN. Which I plan to do when it is possible for me. But When the new nursing act was passed allowing LPN's to push their own IV meds and update their scope, I really felt we would have some respect. But that was not to be true. Most of the floor nurses and even supervisors really respect the LPN's, its generally the upper management that wants them out.
If you dont mind LTC, then that is probably where you will end up. Also many LPN's do office work. Those choices werent for me, because I wanted to increase my nursing skills. VA hospital sometimes hires LPN's, however, you are still support personnel there...little better than a CNA. Be sure to ask about duties if you try VA.
I wish you luck and hope you find the position you are seeking. I have had the opportunity to work in the ER, ICU, TCU as well as med/surg and know we are a valuable asset when given the chance.
