LPN with no experience. HELP!

Published

I am an LPN in Monmouth County currently looking for a job for the last year to no avail. I have applied to every and any job I have come across. In this time I have only been called for 2 interviews in which they wanted someone with experience. So in the meantime I am currently working in a completely unrelated field in order to pay the bills. I am also starting an LPN to RN bridge program. I need any and all advice on what I could possibly do to make myself more marketable and to finally land a job. PLEASE HELP!

Hey there. I am in the same boat you are. I'm trying to get back in after being forced out due to raising a kid by myself. I am from ocean county but went to Monmouth Voc. I contacted the board for refresher course info.. They were no help. My school was zero help, contacted the Nursing Association twice last month and still waiting for a reply.

I need a job bad because I have 1 year before moving out. Such ******* LPNs are being phased out.

Had any luck yet? I am still plugging away. I must have applied for a hundred jobs in the last month and half.

homecare. night shift.

Do you mind me asking with which homecare company you're working for? And did they give you any sort of refresher course or training?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Home care agencies don't offer refresher classes. They will do basic skill competency/review. Some skills are not typically taught in nursing school such as various enteral feed pumps, nebulizers or working with g-buttons.

As far as an inexperienced new grad private duty home health (as opposed to traditional home health intermittent skilled nursing visits which Medicare rules require nurses to have a minimum of one year experience)

Bayada was offering a new grad program in pediatrics in some areas as was loving care agency. You would have to contact your local office to find out if still available in your area. These programs offered extended case orientation for shift work with "basic care " children. Good luck

Try Preferred home healthcare. They are/were Atlas. throughout NJ. Galloway NJ site has hired no experience new grads. Show up with a great yresume, include community volunteer work or other community involvement. Show up looking professional. I went to an interview a few months back. I was one of 12 applicants sitting in a waiting room. I was horrified at how the other 11 looked for the interview. Sloppy clothing, jeans, Uggs (the worst shoes ever). Watch your behavior, dont think the receptionist isnt watching you. and PUT THE DAMN PHONES AWAY!!!!!!!! Write a thank you email immediatley after an interview. (I got offered the job but graciously declined b/c of the site).
