LPN in Canada to RN in California

Published

Hi Friends,

I am an LPN in Canada for the past 3 years and now looking to get licensed to RN in California. Can you tell me what are the chances of getting permission to write NCLEX RN exam directly or do I have to undergo some courses ? Based on previous experiences how much do these courses cost and how long do they take ? I completed my Masters in Nursing from India and licensed with CNO in Ontario. I created my breeze account but I need to complete by LIVE Fingerprint to be done and working on that. Could you please keep me posted on the next steps and do I need to request transcripts to be sent to BRN California directly from India ? How much time in months or years does the overall process take to go from LPN to RN license in California ? Sorry for the long message. Just worried on whats coming my way and trying to be strong to face it. Thanks to everyone in advance for their replies.

Do you have a US SSN? CA will not accept your application without it. Even though you are a LPN in Canada you are also a RN from your training from India so really the process is just about registering with the BRN.

Thank you for your response.

No I do not have a SSN but I do have a ITIN #.

Is that OK ? Any other valuable insights in your experience while going through this process ?

Thanks,

Maria.

ITIN number I believe is accepted. You need to check their website for the process on registration as a IEN
