LPN beginning RN Program

Hello everyone,

I am beginning the LPN bridge to RN program this fall at Malcolm X College! I am very excited but nervous at the same time. I also became excepted into St. Xavier University for the BSN program. I chose to go to Malcom X college because although its only an Associate's Degree versus Bachelor's Degree, it will save me lots of financial burden. I decided to get my ADN and get the BSN online next year. I decided to take baby steps because I do have a husband and three children and I dont want to take too much time away from them at one time.

Now back to the point of this thread...I am really nervous about starting the RN program at Malcolm X. If anyone has gone through the program already, I would really appreciate any feedback regarding what to expect. I also would like to know if its anything similiar to the LPN program as far as clinicals? I only did clinical in LTC. One last note, I have been working as a LPN in LTC for 2 yrs. Thanks in advance for the comments.

    Congratulations!! I did "baby steps" LPN, RN, BSN and now MSN. :D I don't have information about your school but I was also nervous when I joined the RN students for their last year. The great news is that it turned out that I was very prepared. The information presented was more detailed but I already had the overview from my LPN education and ended up graduating among the top in my class. Best wishes to you.

    i read a few of your post and would love to ask you a few quick questions. i am from baltimore md, and this summer i fulfilled all of my general requirements for a bsn. i am hoping to start applying soon to schools in my area both community colleges and universities. my question to you is since you started as a lpn do you recommend that i start as a lpn and bridge over? do you think that would make my chances greater for being accepted to the rn program in this area? i currently work at hopkins but i am not in a patient care position i work in finance. even though i may to take a pay cut as a lpn i am willing to do so to get out of finance. i attempted nursing classes back in my twenties but never applied to any nursing schools since i was not focused at the time. now i am in my early 30's, single parent to one daughter and hope to get started on this journey soon. i am even willing to go to schools in dc or pennsylvania to get the ball rolling. if you have any advice it would be great!

    To LiveLearnGrow, Unfortuately I am not from your area so I can not speak on that but I know in my area if you are going to apply to an RN program you need to do it early because many schools in my area have a waiting period. I went for my LPN because of that and plus I did not want to sit around waiting. For me becoming an LPN made it easier since my LPN school had an agreement with the RN school...meaning that when I applied to the RN program I did not need to take Level I which was foundations of nursing and LPNs did not take an entrance exam (however I do not know if they are currently still doing that). But like I tell everyone whether it is going for the RN or transitioning from LPN to RN both programs need your affairs in order. I hope that helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
