I am a lpn in the state of Mississippi. I am trying to find an honest answer on can a lpn do a limit growth ultrasound or is it out of a lpn scope of practice. Where can I find this information?

My understanding is you have to be an ultrasound tech or a provider with verified u/s competency in order to perform any ultrasounds.
Where can I find documentation. What the difference in FHT with a Doppler and with the ultrasound. I need the place where you got your info thank you.

Look at your state board of nursing scope of practice and your state agency that licenses/certified ultrasound techs. Doppler heart rates are not the same as ultrasounds.
I've tried that. I will have to call Monday. Now I never stayed they were the same. I am aware of what an ultrasound is and measures in obs. I'm asking for fetal heart rates. As a thought it seems Doppler has way to much room for mistake on placental, cord, or maternal heart rate.. But is it ok for LPNs to get heart tones then? I'm really wish I could find the ms scope of practice. I've googled can't seem to find it. I was given tennessee scope of practice since that is where I went to school. Can someone help with credible resources??
It's not specific. I found the NPA on the MS BoN website. It is implied that you need specialized training to perform a limited view US in order to be delegated such a task. In my area (not MS) US is limited to US tech, physician, CNM, FNP and cannot be delegated to UAP , RN or LPN. . Doppler can be done by the above plus RN & LPN after inservice and documentation of competency demonstration as part of a focused assessment. (Doppler is not only used for FHT but also peripheral pulses and guided IV placement)
Thank you!!
Are you working in an OB/women's health setting? Do they have policy & procedure for training. & demonstration of competency?
