LPN to ADN, or LPN to BSN?

Hi all, I have been an LPN working in long term care for around 6 months and I really like it. I would like to get my RN for a multitude of reasons: To eventually get management positions, to work in an acute care hospital. My "eventual" goal right now is to get my NP and be a primary care provider for seniors. That may change, but I would like to work towards getting my NP at some point in my career.
My question is, do I get my ADN-RN or BSN-RN right now? I will eventually need a BSN to get into NP programs (right?) but I'm not sure if it makes sense to get it all out of the way now, or get my RN and then get my BSN through another program.
One more thing: I already have a Bachelor's degree in Human Development. Does this change anything? Thanks!

Hi Pinta,

I would check with the universities in the area before making a decision. I am from Miami and there are several programs available. For example at Miami Dade college there is an accelerated program where you can have your RN in 12 months, but if you go to the university of Miami they have a program where you can get your BSN in 18 months since you already hold a bachelors degree.

The BSN is definitely the way to go and if you can do it in about the same amount of time as the RN then I say you should go for it without hesitation.

You can do an accelerated BSN program since you already have a bachelors in another field. And if you want to be an NP....it will be faster to go the accelerated BSN route, then you can do BSN-MSN or BSN-doctorate.
