Been doing my orientation the last few days...We started out with a very low census, about 8 patients...So thumb twiddling was inevitable:uhoh3: This is a small, rural hospital and I'm on the acute/rehab floor doing orientation. Anyway yesterday we get 4 admissions, all sent from a bigger hospital! I got help going through 1 admission the day before and yesterday I did the entire admission just about, took report on the phone, etc...And we aren't computerized yet, so all admission stuff is on what seems like a million different papers. So it seemed to take forever just to get one patient done, then I helped do another admission. On a 7a-7 shift, I really start to by like 4...Yesterday I didn't even get to my lunch until 3pm! Ah well, patients first and foremost.
Off till Friday then I go straight through the weekend.
I'm still having the dumb newbie moments but I'm attempting to not beat myself up, everyone seems pretty helpful and at some point everything will
