Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) Fall 2016

Published

Hello all,

I just finished my TEAS test today and I feel like I did pretty well. I will submit my score to LATTC soon and I already finished my verification workshop. I was wondering if anyone knows if Fall 2016 is still open for students? I really hope to get in for Fall thank you!

Hi all, I had some questions regarding the admission process such as what are the requirements to get into the program? I know we have to attend an info session and then a workshop.

So you must attend the information session, and also attend a transcript workshop. The info session provides good information about what to expect and how to get in. The transcript verification workshop is where you verify with a group of students, if you have complete the prerequisites for the nursing program and the bachelor's program that is bridged with CSULA. You also need to do the TEAS test (make sure it is a computer test, not pencil paper or you must redo it). So make sure you have Anatomy, physiology, and microbiology done. There are other requirements but I don't remember much of them. If you google LATTC prerequisites they should pop up. If you have any more questions such as my experience this far, although I'm only a first semester student, feel free to ask!

Thank you. How is your experience so far? How long did you have to wait to get into the program? Do they offer the program twice a year, and how many students?

I'd say so far my experience has been very eye opening. To be honest I didn't know much about the medical field, or what nurses do. I think keeping an open mind is important. Also, I believe having a study group is crucial to your success in nursing school. They moved pharmacology from the regular semester and moved it to the summer, this is the first time they moved pharmacology, and already we lost 10 people. Many of these people were bright students but I just think they had too much on their plate. What I mean by that is they had a lot of distractions going on outside of school which really hindered their learning experience. And they offer the program every semester. I waited 1 semester, it went by pretty fast. We entered with 45 people and we're down to 38.

Hi Ryusan!

Thanks so much for your information! I did not know nursing program has classes in summer. Would you please give more details about pharmacology in summer? I'm thinking to visit my parents (in Vietnam) next summer but I don't want to miss school. Thank you!

They just implemented Pharmacology in the summer. Well I'm pretty sure they'll implement it during the winter too but it was originally supposed to be alongside your other first semester classes but the workload was too much. They moved Pharmacology to the summer and you also need to take the intro to nursing course which is 3 weeks long. So I didn't have a summer vacation at all. Just 2 week's before the official first semester started. Our class was 5 weeks long and we met Monday thru Wednesday. This class is where you learn the basic's of pharmacology, how you administer medications etc. We had a test every Wednesday and a practicum where we showed off our medication administration skills at the end of the 5 weeks. For many, it was grueling work which I agree it was but being in the actual first semester is very tough. We constantly have around 3 tests a week, we have to go to clinical and beforehand do research on our patients and make a care plan and know their medications before the clinical day starts. I'm halfway done with the first semester and it's so much work. Making sure you have great time management, and a critical mind is very important in the program. Best of luck!

Thank you so so much ryusan! Now I believed that there is no life if we are in nursing program ^.^. Wish you all the best!

Yes no problem! Please do not hesitate to ask anymore questions it's no bother at all. I think it's good to provide information from a students perspective to oncoming semesters! Also I see that there isn't much info about LATTCS nursing program on this forum so I think it'd be great to give a glimpse of the student life at this school.

I am taking HOC classes at LATTC while waiting for the answer from nursing dept. I hope they will give me a seat for Spring 2017 (keep praying ^.^). I will bother you again if I have more questions :-). So glad to have you in this forum and wish to meet you one day in school. Thanks for your kindness!

Hey Ryusan,

What semester are you now in and how are you liking the program so far? I can't personally PM you due to low post count but please get back to me if you can! Curious and have a few questions if you have some free time.

I'm a first semester student. I enjoy the program so far. I have a clinical instructor who is so amazing. She makes clinical less nerve wracking and she is so kind and sweet. You really have to be great at critical thinking. Yes feel free to ask. I enjoy answering pre nursing student questions!

Thanks for your input, that's very reassuring for me to hear after reading some not-so-kind reviews regarding the first semester professor there. Any insight on this?

A few other questions:

1) How long did the whole process taking you (information session to being accepted into the wait list). How about once you were accepted, how many semesters were you on the wait list?

2) I've read that a lot of students drop out in their first semester. Your input behind the cause of this? What's your personal experience so far with attrition rates?

Again, thanks for taking some time out of your day to answer these. I'm hoping that with solid critical thinking skills and proper time management, that I'd be OK despite what I've read from past/present nursing students attending LATTC. I'm glad to hear you're having a pleasant experience thus far.
