Hey all, I was just wondering what the demand is for CRNA in the LA area? About half the people I talk to say it is a dying profession out here, and the other half say they are in high demand. So which is it?
Where in the LA area are they employed? I don't really know much about CRNA, I am just starting to research it. Do they work independently (ie bill insurance companies)? Or are they employed by hospitals/surgeons?

Look on gaswork.com. This site lists availale CRNA jobs in all states. I'm sure they don't list every single one, but you should get somekind of idea what the needs are in CA:)

There are about 70% of the nations MDA's located here in So Cal (San Diego) included so the area is defintiely MDA dominated at this time. However...there are plenty of CRNA jobs at the big teaching hospitals (UCLA, USC, VA med centers) as well as smaller hospitals like Loma Linda, Arrowhead, and of course all the Kaiser hospitals which alone accounts for probably about 20+ hospitals in LA area alone with more on the way. There are ATC models, independent practice, and practice opportunites for CRNA's.
Whoever said it is a dying profession is out of their mind (or just making themselves feel better after not getting into anesthesia school). We just had a very prominent MDA guest lecturer in our class the other day who predicted just the opposite...that CRNA's will soon be the primary anesthesia providers in CA...and the MDA's will shift to more of a research, teaching oriented role. We'll see about that...but the future is bright here and elsewhere fro CRNA's...don't believe those who say otherwise.
